Natural Diamond Guide

Diamonds have been around from billions of years and are known best for being the most desired gemstone of them all. Thanks to their dazzling appearance and incomparable durability, diamonds are loved and adored by all from high profile celebrities to the royal family and are the most coveted gemstone around.

Why Buy Natural Diamonds?

1. Value & Rarity

The beauty of opting for a natural diamond is the fact that they hold their value well. Although lab diamonds have many benefits, natural diamonds are known to hold their value more due to the fact their origin is directly from nature as opposed to being mass produced in a laboratory, meaning they're far rarer.

2. Natural Beauty

Due to the fact they're quite literally formed from within the earth, natural diamonds are known for having a distinct and admired allure and lustre.

3. Unmatched Durability

Ranking a 10 on the MoHs scale of hardness, natural diamonds are the hardest mineral on earth with the highest resistance to scratches and scuffs.

Natural vs Lab Created Diamonds

Natural diamonds and lab grown diamonds are equally as beautiful as each other. Both are chemically and visually identical, and virtually impossible to differentiate. The only real difference is their origin. Natural diamonds are found in nature and formed via extreme heat and pressure within the Earth's mantle, where as lab created diamonds are man-made and grown in a laboratory. Natural diamonds are still a favoured traditional choicethanks to their incredible brilliance and their natural geological origin.

How are Natural Diamonds Created?

Step 1:

Carbon Creation

A diamond's journey starts deep down in the earth's mantle, as trapped carbon dioxide and other mineral rich carbon forms.

Step 2:

Pressure and Extreme Heat

As you can imagine, it’s pretty hot deep down within the Earth’s crust. Temperatures average between 900 - 1300 degrees which melts parts of the mantle into magma.

Step 3:

Diamonds Rise to the Surface

This extremely hot magma then erupts rapidly to the Earth’s surface, which transports the diamonds up above to ground level.

Step 4:

Cooling and Diamond Formation

Once the magma cools, pipe-like structures are created which we call kimberlite pipes. Kimberlite pipes are known for being the most significant source of mined diamonds.
