How to measure a
ring in secret

Buying an engagement ring or a surprise gift for your partner? Here are our top tips on how to find
their ring size in secret.

Ask a friend or family member. Someone
close to your partner may already know their ring size or could even try and subtly ask them on your behalf.

Measure an existing ring. If they already wear a ring on the finger in question, why not secretly measure it? You can either take the ring to a jeweller to be measured or print our ring size guide to measure it yourself.

Measure their finger while they are asleep. Although slightly trickier, you can measure your partner's finger using a piece of string whilst they are asleep. Just wrap it around the ring finger and tie a knot. Then using the string, measure it against our ring size guide.

FAQ's

When resizing we recommend either going up or down two sizes to minimise the risk of damage. If you go any further than 2 sizes up or down, the risk of damaging the ring or affecting the diamond/gemstone massively increases.

There are many factors that affect the resizing of your ring and depending on the design, there may be instances where resizing may not be possible. If your ring is set on a full eternity band, it’s likely that it’s unable to be resized as there is no bare metal for the jeweller to work with. If your ring is set on a plain band, providing there is enough material to work with resizing is a fairly easy process. Here at Diamonds Factory, we also offer complimentary 30-day free resizing too.

If your ring is unable to be resized, there are plenty of other options to consider so don’t panic. The first option is of course to have it remade; however, this may not necessarily be in your budget and luckily there are much more affordable options to consider. One option is to purchase a new ring mount and have your diamond/gemstone added onto this instead, saving you money on buying a new precious stone. An even cheaper option is to add a small sizing bar or adjuster at the bottom of your ring.

Upon receiving your ring, we aim to get resizing done with 10-14 days. However, it’s important to note that depending on your ring design, this may take longer. Resizing cannot be done in store, and items need to be sent directly to our warehouse where our skilled craftsmen will resize your ring.

Rings can be resized up to 2-4 times. It’s important to note that every time you resize a ring you are weakening its structure slightly, which is why we recommend trying to get your resizing right on the first round.
